Spring 2010 (Part II)

This’ll be short, but I’m participating in an exciting marketing campaign this spring, masterminded by Jeremy Robinson. A group of ace writers who have books forthcoming in the next several months are banding together to release a killer catalog which gives the lowdown on a number of terrific upcoming releases. Check out the catalog here: http://bit.ly/avbFWo. You’re guaranteed to discover some fantastic new books.

In other news, beautiful eBooks of SERIAL UNCUT, FOUR LIVE ROUNDS, PERFECT LITTLE TOWN, BAD GIRL, and other short stories, all designed by Jeroen ten Berge, are now available for purchase at www.blakecrouch.com through Paypal.

Finally, three cool bits of news to share:

The first review of SNOWBOUND just came out, a starred, super-cool review from BOOKLIST:

“Crouch builds suspense as lines blur between good and bad, and plot twists continue to the last sentence. Absolutely compelling reading, not for the faint of heart. BOOKLIST (STARRED REVIEW)

And here’s a fun piece of film news from Publishers Lunch:

“J.A. Konrath and Blake Crouch's short story SERIAL, a terrifying tale of hitchhiking gone wrong, to screenwriter Michael Palmer, by Jane Dystel at Dystel and Goderich Literary Management.”

And finally, all writers have a few manuscripts in their desk drawers gathering dust for one reason or another (they suck, being the primary one). Up until recently, I had three. Two of these are unquestionably terrible, and will never see the light of day, but one, called LUMINOUS BLUE, always intrigued me. I wrote the first draft back in 2002 after finishing DESERT PLACES, but I never tried to sell it because (a) it’s a bit of a departure from my standard fare and (b) it’s a little short for a novel (47,000 words).

I recently returned to that novel, gave it another read, and was pleasantly surprised, so much so, that I devoted several weeks to tuning up the prose, authenticating some of the location details I’d gotten wrong, and giving it a minor facelift.

LUMINOUS BLUE is now available on Amazon for $1.99, and on this website, in a beautiful eBook designed by Jeroen ten Berge, for $2.99. Here’s the jacket copy:

“My name is Lancelot Blue Dunkquist, and the best thing about me is, when you doll me up right, I look just like the movie star, James Jansen.”

Meet Lance. 38-years-old. Works a meaningless job. Still lives above his parents’ garage. By all accounts, a world-class loser. Except for one glaring exception...

He has a million-dollar face.

Lance has been mistaken twenty-eight times for the Oscar-winning movie star, James Jansen, and for the last 10 years, he’s saved his money, studied Jansen’s films, his moves, his idiosyncrasies, even the way he speaks. Now, after an unceremonious termination from his job, Lance has decided that the time has come to go after his dream.

From New York’s ridiculous avant-garde, off-off Broadway scene, to the surreal glitter of Los Angeles, follow Lance on his madcap journey of self-abandonment to become his likeness.

Part comedy, part human tragedy, and part suspense, the world through the eyes of Lancelot Blue Dunkquist is like none you’ve ever seen.

See you soon!
