Halloween 2010

In May of 2009, J.A. Konrath and Blake Crouch released a free story called “Serial.” Our purpose in writing it was simply to warn youngsters of the dangers of hitchhiking. 250,000 downloads later and countless lives saved, we said mission accomplished.

Since then, we’ve been searching for our next assignment, and we think we’ve found a relevant and timely issue worthy of our time.

Millions of people the world over have been led to believe that vampires are 24-year-old heartthrobs who wear eyeliner, are vegan, and care about your feelings. We grew up reading books where vampires wanted to exsanguinate you, not sleep with you.

Our new project is an attempt to introduce the TWILIGHT culture to some real &$^#(@# vampires, and with that goal in mind, on October 19, 2010, just in time for Halloween, DRACULAS will be set loose upon the world as an exclusive Kindle eBook.

This time, there are four writers: Joe, Blake, Jeff Strand, and F. Paul Wilson. This is NOT a collection of short stories, but rather a single, complete novel, with four writers striving to create a seamless and terrifying work of fiction.

The jacket description says it all:

A DYING MAN’S GREATEST TREASURE…

Mortimer Moorecook, retired Wall Street raider, avid collector, is losing his fight against cancer. With weeks to live, a package arrives at the door of his hillside mansion—an artifact he paid millions for…a hominoid skull with elongated teeth, discovered in a farmer’s field in the Romanian countryside. With Shanna, his beautiful research assistant looking on, he sinks the skull’s razor sharp fangs into his neck, and immediately goes into convulsions.

OPENS THE DOOR TO AN ANCIENT EVIL...

A rural hospital.

A slow night in the ER.

Until Moorecook arrives strapped to a gurney, where he promptly codes and dies.

WHERE DEATH IS JUST THE BEGINNING.

Four well-known horror authors pool their penchants for scares and thrills, and tackle one of the greatest of all legends, with each writer creating a unique character and following them through a 4-hour period during a vampire outbreak in a secluded hospital.

The goal was simple: write the most frightening book they possibly could.

Which they did.

A word of warning:

Within these pages, you will find no black capes, no satin-lined coffins, no brooding heartthrobs who want to talk about your feelings. Forget sunlight and stakes. Throw out your garlic and your crosses. This is the Anti-TWILIGHT.

We hope you enjoy this book. We had a blast writing it.

Peace!
Blake
